Meet Our Founder & CEO

Ron Andrews

King Cage was founded in 1991 by Ron Andrews, a top East Coast mountain biker with a strong track record of finishes with Team Fat Chance. Off the bike, Ron put his engineering degree to work at Fat City Cycles and Ibis Cycles, where he helped streamline frame production for small manufacturers.

In 1990, after wrapping up his seasonal role at Fat City in Somerville, Massachusetts, Ron moved just down the street to share a shop with Mike Augspurger of One-Off Titanium. There, under the name Andrews Design Works, he continued to make tools and machines—most of which had little appeal outside of a frame shop. But it was during this time that a customer requested a custom titanium bottle cage. Ron took on the challenge, creating the first titanium bottle cage, aptly named the 'King Cage'.

At the time, it seemed like a frivolous idea—an unconventional and somewhat tricky application of titanium. The cage might not have left the shop if initial feedback from bike shops had gone as expected. Ron recalls, "We thought dealers would laugh or hang up on us. Instead, some of them placed orders." And the rest, as they say, is history.

By 1996, King Cage expanded its product line with a stainless steel version, further cementing its reputation for durable, high-quality designs that cyclists could rely on.
